Today, I am talking about a recent anime. While I have mainly covered anime from the 2010s, today I am discussing <The Bisque Doll Falls in Love>, which aired in 2022 and is commonly known as “Kisekoi“. This anime gained amazing popularity, and since it is a story about character cosplay, it also gained popularity among many cosplayers in real world. The main characters are “Wakana”, a boy who is skilled at sewing due to his family business, and “Marin”, a girl who enjoys character cosplay.

This anime is loved by everyone, regardless of gender. “Wakana”, a handsome yet introverted character with the talent to create cosplay costumes, is loved by female fans, while “Marin”, a beauty who is kind to everyone and extroverted, is loved by male fans. Fans watching the sweet interactions between these two pure-hearted characters, who have no rough edges, couldn’t help but be captivated by this anime. The scenes of cosplayers engaging in activities with their cosplay friends in handmade clothes are also realistic, often leading to actual cosplay activities.

This anime also demonstrates a shift in popular anime trends. While “build-up-centered romance” anime—where affection builds through conflict and arguments between men and women and they slowly fall in love—were the trend in the past, nowadays, so-called “healing” anime—which are easy to watch—are the mainstream. Many analyze this as a change in taste due to the harshness of reality, but I don’t think that is entirely the case. Since there are already so many excellent “build-up-centered romance” anime, new ones are simply targeting the gaps. Just look at how the old “build-up-centered romance” anime are still loved.

<The Bisque Doll Falls in Love> does not present a grand narrative. However, its outstanding immersion, character development, and healing story certainly deserve high praise. While it is the opposite of the previous post about <Sagrada Reset>, it possesses its own excellent charm. Please watch <The Bisque Doll Falls in Love> and share your thoughts in the comments. Thank you for reading today’s post!
